If I found myself delayed, the fortresses are very good as temporary defense, I have not seen a trebuchet or similar replacement unit for AOK. Plenty I think it's calledWhat I do is try to get into third age and expand on every available settlement ASAP. Also I delay a bit to research a unique tech taht gives a slow income of gold so I can have less villagers on gold and more on food. I've played with hades and most of the time I beat the comp on moderate, most of the time they are norse and egypt.I can have 5:00-6:00 classical depending on the map, but I tend to extend that time a bit so I can create a hero and gather most if not all of the relics, as apart from gold they give special atributes to military units and/or villagers.
I want to find a way to use the Egys wisely, but as of now, the Greeks seem more powerful. You can't sit back and build a huge army of units that require mythic power. I think that I am favoring the Greeks and the Norse overall though, but I hate how the Norse need to fight for favor, that bites. I'm just trying to work out the Greeks and the Egys right now. She got my gold early and I was broke most of the time.I played Norse a little, but they are indeed complex. She simply was cranking out troops while I was out of gold. And of course, my farms costs gold.woohoo! The best power in the game is probably the meteor storm, and maybe it can turn the tides in a game, but I highly doubt a good player will even let you reach the Mythic Age seeing how games are going.I played my girlfriend and she beat me, and I'm a better player, but I used the EGYS, and she was Hades. I fought the Greeks on hard, and couldn't match the army they were pumping out, just wasn't possible. They are also a very weak civ at the beginning and not all that good later on, I'm speaking from experience too.
And if they get busted up, then you have to pay alot more.
Greeks cost to build a temple is far cheaper compared to all the monuments you need to build and it doesn't stop giving you favor at 100 like the EGY.I'd rather pay 50 food per person and slap them over to the temple, than pay the total cost of all the monuments. They really shouldn't have cost gold in my opinion.Just look at it this way. Plus, Although they don't need to worship, the monuments are very expensive. Gold is just too important for the Egyptians giving them an instant weakness thruout all the ages. I figured they gives me the egde, but it appears not. However, if I am Egyptian myself, I get slaughtered on Hard, and they are who I started playing in the first place. It's pretty much a mauling, especially against the Egyptians. Here are the reasons why they seem far stronger.I can beat the computer on Hard using any of the Greek gods. I really tried to get good with the Egyptians but I have noticed that The Greeks seem more powerful. Also, apparently infanty upgrades have much more bang for the buck than armory upgrades, so it's best to persue those first if at all possible. All food sources (except for hunting) are now infinite, so once you pick a fishing spot it's yours and it'll never run out of food.I've also found that even if you're not ready or capable of exploiting a resource at the current time (such as a gold mine or an empty settlement), try to build a guard tower next to it if you can.It doesn't offer a ton of protection, but it's often enough to keep enemy villagers from making use of it themselves, since the tower will kill them off or destroy any structures they try to build before they can finish.Other than that I'm just trying to follow the advice I've seen posted elsewhere, which is to spend everything you get as soon as you get it unless you're saving for an upgrade, never let the town centers go idle, and use the market as much as you can to keep your resources balanced. If you can do it, fish like crazy to get food.
